Rhys Fulber - Memory Impulse Autonomy
September 2025
Artoffact Records
Rhys Fulber starts his Artoffact Records new chapter with the great "Memory Impulse Autonomy"!
Ten tracks of pure and raw dark techno blended with the gloomiest paths of Rhys Fulber's soundscapes, flowing from the industrial tones, melodic harshness and pounding beats. In "Memory Impulse Autonomy" Rhys Fulber officially starts his new era with the first solo release in Artoffact Records. The new album is set to be released on September 5th. Apart from that, Rhys Fulber goes back to roots regarding his youth music influences and the foundation sensiblities that comes out of his Cabaret Voltaire, Portion Control and Skinny Puppy hearings, blended with the hard-edged industrial techno that he has helped define. "Memory Impulse Autonomy" is a colection of songs that balance between strong emotions and a sentiment of nostalgia with a homage to the past and the excitement for creating brutalist beats and powerful, catchy industrial techno music.

Along with the sound refferences to the past with textures that glance to Richard H. Kirk and Tangerine Dream-like sequences, "Memory Impulse Autonomy" delivers charismatic voices of the present and future of the dark electronic music, featuring William Maybeline (Qual/Lebanon Hannover), the voice of Years Of Denial, Barkosina and the aufnahme+wiedergabe's artist Konstantin Unwohl hailing from Hamburg.
The album opens with one of these collabs and specifically with the double, dark banger on 1 and 2 featuring Qual. "The Abyss (feat. Qual)" is a relentless, cold-beat techno anthem filled with raw despair, while "Control (feat. Qual)" is filled with primitve electronic textures and pure dark intensity with the vocals of Qual bringing memories of dark-industrial project Decoded Feedback.
Next comes another unique collaboration, with Barkosina taking over the vocals and the intense atmosphere, in "Only Love Will Save Us (feat. Barkosina)". A clear moment of contrast between the haunting vocal beauty and the industrial machinery with Barkosina's interpretation adding a layer of mysticism.
Fulber's whole music vision is highlighted with the instrumental tracks of "Memory Impulse Autonomy" where the completed soundscape surrounds the room. "Exclavier" is a solid dose of harsh industrial techno for the dancefloor. It is followed by another collaboraion in "Nichts Dafür Getan (feat. Konstantin Unwohl)" where the Hamburg-based artist adds a dynamic layer to this low-tempo, melancholic electro-balad, with lyrics that Unwohl originally wrote for a punk song. "New Despotism" crafts a strong, sinister industrial atmosphere with seductive synth lines and pounding beats.
"All Of You Go To Heaven" is the point that Rhys Fulber presents his root influences with the Cabret Voltaire-like "chaotic" edit and arrangement, whle "The Elber" acts as an atmospheric, intense, passage onwards to the final turns of the album. "Baaderzeit" is a moment of experimentation delivering ambient and hypnotic textures. "Memory Impulse Autonomy" closes the journey in electronic sounds with the "Further Back And Forward" which contains all the elements of the album's theme, leaving a taste of a trip in time and space.
"Memory Impulse Autonomy" is the album that clearly shows Rhys Fulber's music origins and the length of his creativity. The new album is a collection of sounds, songs, emotions that encapsulates the dynamics of electronic music through powerful work that honors the past, able of shaping the present and future of industrial techno music. Listen in high volume!
